Review of the Law Council’s Principles for determining the appropriateness of online hearings

In June 2025, the Family Law, Indigenous Issues and Rural Issues Committees contributed to a submission to the Law Council of Australia to inform an internal review of its Principles for determining the appropriateness of online hearings (‘Principles’).

The Principles were developed in 2022 by the Law Council’s Access to Justice Committee in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are intended to provide high-level guidance for courts and tribunals when considering the appropriateness of online hearings with a particular emphasis on key justice principles and the promotion of consistency across jurisdictions.
