Human Rights Bill 2025 (NSW)
In October 2025, the Law Society’s Human Rights Committee contributed to a submission to the Attorney General of NSW in response to the introduction of the Human Rights Bill 2025 by the Greens.
We noted our support for referring the Bill to a parliamentary committee for inquiry and report. We suggested this process would help encourage and lend structure and detail to the discussion around the progression of human rights in NSW.
If the government is not minded to refer the Bill, we encouraged another form of comprehensive community consultation on the potential for a Human Rights Act for NSW.
The Law Society and the NSW Bar Association also issued a joint media release in relation to this matter.
