I am an endurance sport addict. Since 2008, I have completed 25 ultra-running events from 75km to 175km, a handful of marathons and obstacle races, and a 25-hour military-inspired physical and mental deprivation course. But I had never tried my hand at road cycling.

Six days of riding more than 900km from the start in Wiseman’s Ferry to the finish in Byron Bay – with some big mountains in between – was daunting.
