Practising certificate (PC) renewal applications for the 2024-25 practising certificate year (1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025) will open in early April 2024.

To prepare, practitioners should start thinking about the following:

Is my correspondence email address up-to-date?

If you hold a current PC issued by the Law Society, in early April 2024 you will receive an email invitation to renew your PC.

For this reason, it is important that the correspondence email address we have on our records is correct and up-to-date.  If you need to update your correspondence email address, you can do so by submitting a change in details form. Please let us know before April 2024 if you need to update your correspondence email address.

Have I completed my CPD?

The CPD year is coming to a close on 31 March 2024. Pursuant to rule 13 of the Legal Profession Uniform Continuing Professional Development (Solicitors) Rules 2015 (the CPD Rules), you will be required to declare in your PC renewal application whether or not you have complied with your CPD requirements for the CPD year 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 when you renew your PC.

Do I know the last date I can renew my PC?

The last date to renew your PC will be 30 June 2024. Any application submitted after 30 June 2024 will be  a new PC application and subrule 17(2) of the Legal Profession Uniform General Rules 2015 will not apply.
