LSJ checks out one of Europe’s top hotels, the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace on Lake Geneva.

The colour yellow reigns in Montreux. It’s the only colour the town planners have deemed can be used on awnings in this party town that is home to the world’s best jazz festival. Yellow works well in summer, when flowers line the streets and Lake Geneva is sparkling blue in contrast to the towering alps behind it. The mountains, some topped with snow even in the warmest months, cap the sparkling view from the terrace outside the spa in Le Petit Palais, the second building of the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace.
