As Kirstin Ferguson and Catherine Fox write in their new book, 2017 and 2018 have seen “the biggest global reboot of the women’s rights movement since the 1970s”. Trump was inaugurated, women took to the streets protesting in pink “pussy hats”, and last year the first of the news stories alleging sexual harassment by Harvey Weinstein and others broke.
But among the swarm of shocking #MeToo stories and feminist-bashing responses that emerged, there was one viral campaign that stood out for its celebration of everyday girl power. It was the #CelebratingWomen campaign.
