Consultation on proposed reforms to strengthen building fire safety

The Property Law and Environmental Planning and Development Committees provided a submission to the Department of Planning and Environment in response to the draft Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Fire Safety and Building Certification) Regulation 2017 and Commentary on proposed reforms to strengthen building fire safety issued by the Department.

The Committees supported proposals to strengthen building fire safety, particularly proposals to improve the rigour of the certification process and the development of accreditation for certifiers.

The Committees also suggested two clarifying amendments to the draft Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Fire Safety and Building Certification) Regulation 2017.
