Solicitor Theresa Simon has been named as the new Deputy President of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT).

Simon will serve as Head of the tribunal’s Consumer and Commercial Division.

Currently a Principal Member of the tribunal, Simon has been with NCAT for the past decade, working in areas including residential tenancy, consumer law, home building and strata.

The former high school teacher lectured at Western Sydney University after completing her law degree. She also assisted parties from culturally and linguistically diverse communities as a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with Legal Aid NSW.

Attorney General Michael Daley said he was confident Simon’s experience would bring strong leadership to the tribunal’s Consumer and Commercial Division.

“The CCD is one of NCAT’s busiest functions and Ms Simon’s dedication to fairness and expertise in dispute resolution will continue to be invaluable to the division and everyone who interacts with it,” said Daley.

Before she joined NCAT, Simon was a legal practitioner in Western Sydney and full-time member of the NSW Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal. She established the NSW Home Building Advocacy Service at the Macquarie Legal Centre.

The Attorney General thanked Mark Harrowell for his service to the role for the past five years.

Theresa Simon will commence in the position on 9 September.
