After a partnership with China-based law firm King & Wood spanning 14 years, Mallesons has commenced what it is describing as a ‘new era.’ Mallesons says it will operate as a full-service firm, “trusted with the most complex and consequential matters across our region and around the world”.
The separation of ‘King & Wood Mallesons’ was announced late last year. Mallesons says its partnership and more than 1,200 lawyers in Australia and Singapore, will be complemented by existing relationships with elite firms around the world.
Chief Executive Partner Renae Lattey commented on the change in a statement. “All business is facing unprecedented disruption and uncertainty,” she said. “We’re here to be the firm they trust most with their future in a world that never stands still.”
Lattey was previously the firm’s Managing Partner, Clients and Mergers & Acquisitions, overseeing client and sector strategy. Her experience includes acting for major telecommunications clients throughout the Asia Pacific.
Lattey’s work included issuing advice to governments about World Bank telecommunications projects in developing countries. She also advised international communications providers about the regulatory environment in Australia.
David Friedlander, Mallesons’ Chair, thanked King & Wood for the partnership and wished them well for the future. “This is an exciting new chapter for both firms,” he said. “For us, as we move forward as Mallesons we have clarity and confidence in our future direction.”
Mallesons’ top-tier offering is delivered through offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Perth. The firm also has an office in Singapore.
Friedlander remarked on the firm’s long past, in contemplating its future direction. “We look forward to building on our 200 year history with a new strategic focus as an independent firm that offers agility and ingenuity when it matters most.”
