The Law Society of NSW is this month launching a new awareness campaign called Lawfully Explained, aimed at raising the profile of the legal profession and connecting the public with its members.

The campaign will help make lawyers and the justice system more accessible to the public by providing advice, content, and support on legal topics across multiple media platforms.

In so many situations – buying a house, getting a divorce, dealing with a tense situation with a neighbour – people need a lawyer but often don’t know where to begin.

Lawfully Explained will target people in the community who might not necessarily know how to seek legal advice when problems arise.

The website will feature articles answering questions about everything from neighbour disputes to jury duty or self-representation in court. A new customised Find a Lawyer tool will help people connect with the solicitor who is right for them.

The Law Society of NSW has also partnered with Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), Australia’s largest broadcast media network, to run advertisements across metro and regional radio and television.

A new podcast series, Lawfully Explained, will launch on SCA’s LiSTNR app, featuring interviews with some of the legal industry’s top experts. This will educate the public about common legal issues with the view to make the law feel less intimidating. Special guests on the show include Law Society Committee members Zaahir Edries and Thomas Russell.

The podcast begins on 2 February and will also be made available on other podcast platforms like Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

The campaign is an initiative of the Law Society of NSW, with support from the Law Institute of Victoria and the Queensland Law Society.
