Meet the new luxury resort that was once an ancient village.

At Amanyangyun, the new five-star resort outside Shanghai, China, it is not just the guests that have come a long way. The property’s antique villas – Ming- and Qing-era stone houses converted into luxurious lodgings – have survived not just centuries, but an epic 700-kilometre road trip. Erected in Jiangxi province amid forests of soaring camphor trees, the villas were set to disappear beneath the waters of a new dam – until Ma Dadong stepped in.
