Independent Children’s Lawyer Emma Mason has been awarded the President’s Medal, the Law Society of NSW’s highest award, at the 2025 Annual Members Dinner and Awards Night held on Friday night.

Mason’s 15-year-old daughter Matilda (‘Tilly’), tragically died by suicide following a campaign of targeted online abuse.

Mason’s advocacy for social media reform has resulted in federal legislation and an invitation to speak at the United Nations this year.

In her acceptance speech, an emotional Mason thanked the Law Society and her colleagues for the nomination. “I accept this award on behalf of my husband, Tilly’s siblings: Maggie, Molly and Jacoby, my darling parents who are forever destroyed by the loss of Tilly…,” she said.

The President’s Medal is awarded to an individual who goes “above and beyond to uphold the core values of our profession.” The award is considered to be the highest NSW award for solicitors.
