Helen Roberts SC has been appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
Roberts commenced her legal career as tipstaff to the late Supreme Court Justice Kim Santow and was an associate to former High Court Chief Justice Murray Gleeson AC KC.
Roberts joined the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in 1999 and held senior positions in the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Office and the Northern Territory ODPP. She was also the Deputy Coroner for the Northern Territory before returning to the NSW ODPP where she was appointed a Crown Prosecutor in 2010 and Senior Counsel in 2021. Roberts was appointed Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions in 2022 and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales.
In announcing the appointment, Attorney General Michael Daley praised Roberts’ impressive career as a crown prosecutor and noted her experience in the administration of justice.
“Her expertise, integrity and dedication will be an asset to the Supreme Court of NSW. This appointment will strengthen the court’s capacity to deliver timely and fair justice to the community,” he said.
Roberts replaces Justice Mark Ierace. She will be sworn in on 16 March.
