Jillian Kelton and Adam Williams have been named as judges of the District Court of New South Wales.

A statement released by Attorney General Michael Daley describes Kelton’s legal career of nearly three decades, including with the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions in NSW.

She was appointed Crown Prosecutor in 2018 and has appeared in District Court matters including manslaughter, sexual assault, conspiracy and drug-related offences.

Kelton has also been involved in the pre-recording of children’s evidence as part of the Child Sexual Offence Evidence Program (CSOEP).

In his statement, the Attorney General also points out Kelton’s regular teaching modules for police, in areas such as charging considerations and conducting interviews with children in sexual assault matters.

Adam Williams is a barrister specialising in criminal law and is a member of Samuel Griffith Chambers. He became a solicitor in 1998 and worked in private practice in Sydney and northern NSW, before being admitted to the Bar in 2002.

Jillian Skelton also commenced her legal career as a solicitor, before becoming a barrister and Crown Prosecutor in 2018. She also previously worked at the HIV/AIDS Legal Centre in Sydney.

Daley said he was pleased to announce the appointment of both judges. “Both bring extensive experience and are highly credentialed,” he said.

“I thank Ms Kelton and Mr Williams for agreeing to serve the people of New South Wales in these important roles, and I wish them every success on the bench.”
