In a decision expected to reduce workload and support staff wellbeing, NSW Director of Public Prosecutions Sally Dowling SC  has announced the approval of 65 new positions at the ODPP.

The equivalent full-time positions have been confirmed for the current financial year.

The increase in solicitors will reduce workload and improve operational efficiency, whilst strengthening prosecution services in NSW,Dowling said.

Following last year’s expansion of 63 new position, this marks the largest increase in resources for the ODPP, bringing its staff count to more than 1100.

The new roles, covering areas from legal, administrative and management functions, include 22 solicitors in response to workload data, nine Witness Assistance Officers following in response to the expansion of the Child Sexual Offence Evidence Program (CSOEP), legal support officers and paralegals, a Professional Development Lawyer to contribute towards training and mentoring opportunities for other legal staff, and more.
